The Therapy of Freewriting
Ask any writer, freewriting is a fundamental element of most writing classes, a highly praised tool in most books on perfecting writing, and a generally great exercise, yet I wonder how many would-be writers actually take the time to freewrite.
Between working on my own projects, trying to get some semblance of a freelance career off the ground, manage the house and mind my four-year-daughter, I know busy. The Stomach-swirling, frantic, vein-pulsing anxieties of writing my way through life is familiar. Type to a to-do list, edit by a timer, driving deadline ride me passed bedtime.
In the late quiet hours as night folds to morning, I wonder if this is it. The it I battled through college for; the it that drives my dreams, goals, and ambitions. In the middle of the night, when my house is silent and my timer is turned off, I find myself wondering what it is?
